How many countries has Rahul Dravid played for ? | #235
+ Hans Zimmer giving music to a Bollywood film
Hello friends
January 11th, 2025, marks the 52nd birthday of Rahul Sharad Dravid. The man has finally helped get ICC-event monkey off India’s back by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. Growing up and following the Indian cricket team from the 90s onwards, there were a few reassuring sights, one among them was this absolutely perfect forward defense - no way will this wall be breached.
Things We Learnt This Week:
You recently get married and go on a honeymoon to Scotland and then you decide to do it - play cricket that is.. Rahul Dravid played 12 limited overs games for Scotland including one against Pakistan. He unfortunately was dismissed for a duck in that game but recovered to smash 120 not out against Somerset and 129 not out against Nottinghamshire - neither of which resulted in a victory for Scotland. Playing international cricket on your honeymoon is certainly a bold choice but he knew the old adage - you don’t need 6 balls to bowl a maiden over
Rahul Dravid is often nicknamed the Wall - a nickname which he truly hates. But who gave him the name? Nima Namchu and Nitin Berry were working with the ad agency Leo Burnett for a campaign for Reebok. Their earlier work for the campaign was to brand Azharuddin as the Assassin and Anil Kumble as the Viper. But nobody remembers them - the only name that stuck was Rahul ‘The Wall’ Dravid. Namchu and Berry studied the early Dravid - he wasn’t someone who scored a lot of boundaries but didn’t seem to crumple against pressure either. Outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, a wall comprising over 10000 bricks has been built to honour the man with all his international centuries recorded for posterity.
If a University offered, you an honorary doctorate degree and with that you could get to be called “Dr” would you take it? Rahul Dravid was offered one, but he declined and added that he would like to earn the doctorate by completing research in the field of sports. He mentioned that his mother Dr Pushpa Dravid completed her PhD at the age of 55 and his wife studied 7 years to get her degree and it would be unfair to just get a degree like that. There is at least one person who seems to empathise with all the students slogging for their degrees - Dr. Avid
