Mitron,
It was an interesting week for Indians at their workplace - Kohli showed us his Virata Roopam and helped India win an improbable game against Pakistan, Elon Musk took over Twitter just so that he could Pan Parag, and Rishi Sunaked his way to 10 Downing Street and gave us our first viral WhatsApp forward. Really.
In this week’s newsletter, we look at Indians abroad some of whom have interesting jobs.
Things we learnt this week 🤓
Whenever an Indian origin person is named CEO of a big company, it’s all over the news. Unsurprisingly the appointment of Amrapali “Ami” Gan as the CEO of content subscription service website OnlyFans, didn’t see elicit a reaction from local news outlets. Ami Gan has an interesting background - born in Mumbai, college in California, started out in a leadership program in Pepsi, before working in a Cannabis cafe. She then became the Chief Marketing Officer at OnlyFans before being appointed the CEO in 2021. Apparently their head office has no air conditioners, only fans.
Rinku Singh aka Veer Mahaan is an Indian-origin WWE entertainer with an interesting background. He won a reality show called Million Dollar Arm, which made him the first Indian to get a professional baseball contract. After his short-ish baseball career, he bulked up and signed with the WWE where he was christened Veer Mahaan. Just to recap:
Born in rural Uttar Pradesh ✅
Won a reality TV show ✅
Portrayed by Suraj Sharma in a Disney film ✅
Now a WWE ’star’ ✅
Talk about an overachieving Indian kid.
The legendary rock band Soundgarden was founded by Chris Cornell and guitarist Kim Thayil, whose parents hailed from Kerala. Along with Pearl Jam and Nirvana, Soundgarden popularized the grunge sound of the early 90’s. It’s no surprise that Kim Thayil has been rated by Rolling Stones as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Incidentally, Kim was the first Indian-American to win a Grammy Award, in 1994. These days, Kim Thayil is a professional Osho impersonator [citation needed].

The lady who designed the Taj… Not that one but the other one.
A tired Soviet Naval officer prevented a full blown nuclear war in 1962. This might sound crazy, but here’s the full story.
Only In India 🇮🇳
That is one way to solve a love-triangle problem.
