Things we’re reading / watching / listening to:
Fun Home - A critically acclaimed graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel (yes, that Bechdel) about growing up in rural USA in a dysfunctional family and grappling with her sexual identity. Bechdel took seven years to write and draw Fun Home thanks to the painstaking process she followed which included photographing herself in poses for each human figure and then drawing above that. Don’t miss the literary allusions in the book.
Knock Down The House - A documentary that follows 4 progressive women candidates fighting their primaries in 2018. Details the efforts taken by them to try and beat really strong contenders. Key scenes - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explaining her campaign flyer and how it is different from incumbent Joe Crawley’s flyer and bonus - she actually printed Bengali versions of her flyer.
