Mitron,
Back in the 90’s trump cards were all the rage and one could say the phrase “Chest 56 inch clash” without batting an eyelid. But today a ‘Trump card” most likely means an elderly gent talking country names and tariff percentages.
This week, Donald Trump, with the brainiest economic theory in his head, decided to invoke something that the US last did with disastrous consequences in the 1930s - invoke tariffs. The world is up in arms, or on twitter, in full economic warfare mode
This week we begrudgingly dig up some stories about Donald Trump that you might have heard before.
Things we learnt this week 🤓
Donald Trump grumbles about the Hollywood elite these days, but back when he was just an annoying real estate agent, he was actively trying to court Hollywood. The rule then was if you wanted to shoot a movie at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, you had to include Donald Trump in the movie. He famously made a cameo in the film Home Alone 2 guiding Kevin McCallister with the line “down the hall to the left”. The scene was neither pivotal nor political, but this cameo has now been cut in TV reruns of the movie. In another Hollywood classic, Scent of a Woman, Donald Trump made the same demand that he be in the movie. The crew even shot a scene of him exiting a taxi, but that never made the final cut. My Plaza, My Rules.

Trump has shown very little grasp of history in his life, so it is safe to say that he may not like to visit museums. But there is a museum in this world, where Trump is a key part of it - The Museum of Failure. This offbeat museum in Los Angeles covers everything from flopped movies to disastrous food products, celebrating the missteps that many have decided to forget. The museum prominently features the glorious failures of Trump including:
Success Distilled, AKA a bottle of yellow-tinged Trump Vodka (2006-2011)
A box set of Trump: The Game
The only version of Monopoly in which you can actually get fired
A pair of textbooks from Trump University, including Play to Win in Business and Life and Entrepreneurship 101: How to Turn Your Idea Into a Money Machine.
The museum’s founder said that the Trump section could have been bigger. Wonder if a Trump presidency will find a permanent exhibit along with a person, woman, man, camera, TV! #YouRemember
Donald Trump claims to be a brilliant tweeter <Can we still use that?> But back in 2017, he stunned the world with a profound tweet - “Despite the constant negative press Covfefe.” The world went into a tizzy about the meaning of it all. Back then, Elon hadn’t entered the twitter-verse to make it worse but Jack Dorsey held the reins and he was an anti-editer of tweets. So Donald Trump had to delete his tweet. Mike Quigley, an American Congressman, introduced legislation to ensure that Presidential tweets are documented and preserved for future reference. He named it Communications Over Various Feeds Electronically for Engagement Act or Covfefe Act.
