#22 Football Logos, X-men, & Making Beyonce
Also, trivia about Shawshank Redemption that you DIDN'T already know
Hello friends
Nobody wants to relive 2020. So we did it anyway.
This past Sunday, Ashish Shakya, along with panelists Anuya Jakatdar and Vivek Tejuja, took us through all the highs (eh?) and lows of this past year. We learned that the idea of Jio was born when Isha Ambani decided that the internet at her house sucked (her words, not ours) and that people in Brazil recently protested against their government by banging pots together. Sound familiar?
Onto our next quiz. You asked and we listened! Since you loved our recent India quiz with Dr Navin Jayakumar we convinced him to host a second edition. Some names we considered for this:
Great India Quiz: Greater India
Great India Quiz: Maha Bharat
Great India Quiz 2: Electric Boo.. nvm
We finally settled on something simple:
Three things we learnt this week:
The 1978 Football World Cup was held at the height of the rule of the Junta. The logo for it was created in 1974, before the military takeover and the Junta were trying to change it desperately. Fearing litigation from FIFA, they decided against it. The reason they wanted to change this was because the logo was inspired by the signature gesture of Juan Peron.
Did you know that Stan Lee’s X-men was inspired from the Civil Rights movement. What happened in the movies? Watch the video and find out :)
Facts about Shawshank Redemption on its 26th anniversary
Things we’re reading / watching / listening to:
Footnotes in Gaza: Joe Sacco is unique that he is a cartoonist-journalist. He travels to Khan Younis and Rafah in the Gaza Strip to track down and document memories of the 2 lesser known atrocities committed by the Isreali army during the Suez Crisis. His unique style combining oral history, memoir and reportage with cartoons paints a picture not only on the page, but on the reader’s mind as well.
Making Beyonce: From the makers of Making Oprah and Making Obama, comes the third in the series - Making Beyonce. It focuses on the early years of a girl from Houston, who would go on to become the queen of modern music. At age 9, when other children would go out to play, Beyonce would be put through her paces in her backyard on a home-built stage under the tutelage of a team of voice coaches and choreographers.
