Hello friends
Back in May 2020 the world was in the midst of a pandemic. A bunch of folks decided to spread some cheer and start a weekly newsletter about Fun Facts™️ with an India twist. Little did they know that they’d go from Issue #1 and keep it going for the following 200 weeks.
To commemorate our special 200th issue we have a Guest Editor - writer & content creator Shakti Shetty, who’s themed this issue based on the number 200. Check out his Substack for his weekly musings.
Things we learnt this week 🤓
Mir Osman Ali, the last Nizam of Hyderabad, touted to be the richest man in the world, fathered 200 children! I can barely remember where I kept my phone charger.
Lata Mangeshkar is the only Indian in the Top 200 list of Greatest Singers by Rolling Stones at #84.
Astronauts on the International Space Station have 200 meal options, but they have to decide what they will want for the whole trip before they go up. Just like your average Zomato scroll.
Peregrine falcons have nose cones to slow down the air coming in while diving at 200 mph.
A blue whale can eject up to 200 litres of poo in one bowel movement.
Spoiler alert: There’s another toilet-based fact up ahead.
In 2022, Bhutan increased its "Sustainable Development Fee" to $200 per night from $65 – saying that it would go to off-set the carbon generated by visitors. They then slashed it by 50% to $100 in 2023.
United 175 was barely 200 feet away from colliding with another airplane before hitting the World Trade Center.
About 200 people had summited Mount Everest by 1987. As of December 2023, about 6664 different people have reached the top.
There are whales alive today who were born before Moby Dick was written. Some of the bowhead whales in the icy waters off of Alaska today are over 200 years old. That’s a sea-noir whale.
Humans have apparently left 200 tons of rubbish on the moon – including spacecraft junk, old boots, towels, backpacks and 96 bags of pee and vomit.
Related: This newsletter edition has 2 Fun Facts about bodily fluids.
At $200 million, Killers of the Moon Flower (2023) is the most expensive biopic ever made, surpassing Martin Scorsese's own The Irishman (2019).
In the event of an apocalypse, about 200 humans would need to survive for the species to be able to repopulate (or 1 Nizam of Hyderabad).
Only In India 🇮🇳
